Pregnancy Test
I think I might be pregnant
Right now, you might be feeling scared, unsure, or alone. An unexpected late period can be really scary and stressful. Options is here to help. We are here to listen. We understand that this might not be an easy decision for you and we’re here to help you navigate through your choices. You are not alone.
Pregnancy can cause many changes in a woman’s body. Some symptoms of pregnancy include:
Missed period
Nausea
Fatigue
Sore breasts
Frequent urination
Appetite changes
Moodiness
Deciding when to take a pregnancy test can be confusing. Pregnancy tests can be taken as early as the first day of your missed period. If you don’t know when your last period was or have irregular periods, you can take a test 21 days after having unprotected sex or whenever you begin to notice symptoms.
Pregnancy tests measure the presence of HCG in your urine. HCG stands for human chorionic gonadotropin and is a hormone produced by cells that are growing around the embryo.
Options offers free pregnancy tests. Our tests are a rapid test that quantitatively detects the presence of HCG. You will receive the results of your conclusive pregnancy test on your first visit. Having the results quickly will help you as you make the next decisions about your pregnancy.
I think she’s pregnant
Whether she’s your partner, friend, or your daughter, worrying she might be pregnant can be a terrifying thing.
First off, thank you for being supportive and taking the initiative to seek out information. She’s going to need your support through this. She needs your help more than ever right now. So how can you help?
Don’t panic.
Easier said than done, we realize. But staying calm and level headed is what she needs from her support person. There’s a lot going on in her mind right now, not to mention all the changes in her body, and she needs some stability.
Don’t pressure her.
Pregnancy is life changing. There are no easy answers and quick fixes. The decision to parent, place for adoption, or abort is extremely difficult and she needs time and support while she’s gathering information. Affirm her efforts to get information and offer help where ever you can. She needs you.
Be honest with her.
This is her choice but it is helpful if you can both express your own thoughts and feelings.
Bring her to Options.
At Options she can get a free pregnancy test and ultrasound, but more importantly, she can sit down with our staff and discuss her questions and concerns. We are here to support her. And we’re here to support you as well. An unexpected pregnancy can be tough to deal with for everyone involved.
